Please read!! Workshop information
The print workshops are delivered in a fun yet informative way by Claire Sellers and Tracey Stokes, local print makers and experienced technicians to college level.
Adults only please, (unless specified otherwise) although teenagers are welcome with a participating adult. Please email if you want to enquire further about this.
There will be a maximum of 6 people at each workshop, the smaller numbers giving you more time with your instructors to learn. Please bring some inspiration with you such as sketchbooks, magazine pictures or something that can get you started with an idea. We will also have plenty of inspiration on hand to help.
It would be a good idea to wear old clothes or bring an apron. We will get messy! Also, please wear some layers in case you get a little chilly! It can get a little cold in our workshop in the winter months.
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided but please bring some lunch for all day workshops.
Please pay in full through the website to secure your place on the workshop.
If you are redeeming a voucher, please email us to book your place.
We reserve the right to cancel workshops and offer a full refund if there are insufficient numbers signed up. If there is any reason you cannot attend, please give us as much notice as you can. No refunds given but please contact us by email as a place on another workshop can be arranged (space permitting.)

Method 1 - We will show you how to prepare an image using hand cut paper stencils for printing through a blank screen.
Method 2 - We will create imagery using mark making and experimental drawing techniques with various materials on a film which will then be exposed onto a screen using photo sensitive emulsion and our exposure equipment. You will then print your exposed images to create a small edition of prints.
By the end of the day you will know how to prepare screens for exposure, the exposure process will be explained, the processes will be demonstrated and printing techniques shown and you will have two small editions of prints to take home.
For those with little or no experience of screen printing. Please bring some imagery that you could use as a starting point. This could be in the form of anything visual that inspires you to create a print.

During this workshop we will cover the basics of printing with a gel plate. Using the gel plate, we will create a variety of printed papers and then use these papers to create an abstract collage, based on an image that appeals to us – eg a landscape or still life.
Please bring with you a small selection of images, eg postcards, photos, magazine pages etc which feature images that you are drawn to. One of them will be chosen to be the inspiration for the collage you will make in the afternoon.
We will examine our chosen image to help us choose the colour palette we will work with, to influence the textures and patterns we will create on our collage papers and to look for shapes that we wish to use in our collage.
All materials are provided. We will be using acrylic paints which can stain so please wear non-precious clothing and/or bring an apron. Please also bring your lunch – hot & cold drinks and biscuits will be provided.
Helen Martin is a very keen gel plate printer and abstract collage artist, who describes her style of working as 'painting with paper'. Her work can be seen at Studio 3 Gallery at Clevedon Craft Centre, and on her Instagram page @alifeincollage
